Can I set up XP Pro as Domain?
Hi,
When I am intalling Windows XP Pro on my system it is not asking for domain or workgroup. By default it is installing as workgroup.
I don't know about networking. Can I install my system with windows XP Pro as a domain? If not please tell what I need to do. I am missing something.
Could you pl guide me.

Hyma,
Unless there is a need to attach to a domain, leave the system as a member of a workgroup. Computers which are members of domains are found in corporate environments where there may be many hundreds of computers connected to the network. If you are using the system at home, membership in a workgroup is appropriate.

Thanks for the reply. I am working on Oracle applications. Every thing is internet based. Before I had a system with NT4.0 and Installed applications on that. Applications works well.I didn't had that system now.
Do I have to load any server along with XP Pro on my sytem. Please let me know.

Hyma,
If your work is internet based and not Local Area Network based, leave your system configured as part of a workgroup. You should not need to load any server unless you plan on testing and debugging these applications directly on your local system.

In that case could you pl tell how to create a domain. I need a domain name for my applications. Can I create it manually? Pl let me know.

In laymans terms:
A domain is hosted on a Server (which you do not have) which has it's own network properties for local and internet access (WINS, DNS, Static IP Address, etc)
What program requires you to run in a Domain environment?
