Can not connect to the Internet

I have an Inspiron 5100 Laptop.

Recently I had to reinstall the OS (Windows XP- SP1Home Edition) .

I can not get the internet connection to work.  The networking consists of a router and a cable modem,  The system used to work prior to reinstallation.

Clicking on Network connection from control panel shows

1394 Connection; Lan or HIgh Speed Internet; Enabled; 1394 Net Adapter.

Clicking on Properties:
The device use the following
Network Monitor Driver
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) driver

Trouble shooting shows network adapter working.

Pin command with the address that wraps around the packets work fine.

Device drivers show

Ethernet controller with a bold yellow ? (question mark)

Clicking on it shows

As I have posted several hundred times on these forums, after reinstalling Windows the chipset drivers must be the first drivers installed.  Without the chipset drivers, Windows will not be able to recognize or install drivers for many other devices. Once the chipset drivers are installed you need to install the drivers for your network adapter, video adapter, audio adapter, and modem and any other devices on your computer.

Thanks a million.
That was the problem.  The chipset drivers.
