Just a thought or two.

Try running Finding System Information at the bottom, you'll see what wireless adapters you have.

Also if you can connect with an ethernet cable and it's an Intel card, then try...

If it were an Intel device, the VEN ID would be 8086 instead of 14E4.

ok i did that and in my device manager the yellow "!" is gone and then when i try to use wireless it still wont let me....do i need to change something?

ok i did the finding system information task that you said...what next?

Great!!!! now i have the network connections coming up but when i click connect is says an unknow reason. could it be something i did when i set up my router? wasnt sure of a few things...thank you so much for helping me!!!!! almost there!!!!!

Yes.  Perhaps you added some type of passphrase to your router when you set it up and maybe it's not matching.  You should be able to figure out how to reset the passphrase on the router by using your router's user manual.  Let me know if you still need help from me.  If you don't have your router's user manual then we can probably find it on the internet by going to the manufacturer's website and finding the support documentation for your router model...

What didn't work for you?  Did you not reinstall your Operating System?

I just got off the phone with net gear and they went through everything with me and said the router is set up right. but they have no idea why it wont work.  This is so frustrating!!!!! I there anything else you can do to help me?

Which application are you using to try to make a connection to your wireless router?  Are you using the Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility or are you using Microsoft Windows' "Connect to network" wizard?

I had the same issue ... wired desktop PC and son's wireless notebook worked fine, but new Dell laptop would not connect via wireless connection.  Found a post by neilburn in another forum that worked for me, try this:

• Open "Dell ControlPoint Connection Manager", either from icon on taskbar or Start Button, Programs
• Select "Profiles" on side-bar menu and click on "Change Settings" (at the bottom of dialog box)
• Click on "Program Settings".  In the "Available Technologies" box, un-check (de-select) "Wi-Fi"
• Click "OK", back all the way out (Close ControlPoint Connection Manager)
• Open "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility", either from icon on taskbar or Start Button, Programs
• Go to the "Wireless Networks" tab and check (select) the box for "Let this tool manage your wireless networks"
• Laptop should then find your wireless network (mine did immediately); select the network if you need to, click Apply, then OK.

I have been tring to download the driver for my wireless card, but it wont do anything. Just the green bar loads at the bottom of the page and then nothing happens. I have tried to do this a dozen times. I was able to download this driver on my desktop but it wont download on my laptop. Can someone help me?
