Can not search from address bar

Question

I have a dell inspiron 6000 that was taking over by spyware. I put a fresh install of windows xp media center with the desks provided. I deleted all the partitions and did a full format for the fresh install also. The address bar use to work by going to search.myway which came with the computer loaded from dell. I hear that some computer manu. take this search out of the install so you have to use there's. I want to be able to type in the address bar and have msn search show the results. Right now it saids page can not be displayed. Thank You

Reinstall the app frp, search.myway   Maybe that's where the spyware came form.

Spyware:   I like Microsoft Defender and AdAware seems to be popular among the regulars.

OK. But is there anyway to have it go to msn or google right from the address bar. The computer seem to be spyware free with the new install. Thank You   P.S. What would any of you 'EXPERTS' say is the best spyware program to buy. Everybody that answers question in here seems pretty smart and trust worthy.
