Can't access any web page at all
Internet Explorer is not working on this computer. A Dimension 2400. Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2
Outlook Express works fine. I am able to use Yahoo IM with no problem.
I can ping websites from a dos prompt, but cannot access them with Internet Explorer.
But I can access any web page at all.
Internet Explorer always reports "The page cannot be displayed". In the blue bar at the top of the window it always says "Cannot find server".
I have used Add or Remover Programs/Add/Remove Windows Components to uninstall then reinstall Internet Explorer. Doesn't help
I have tried reinstalling Service Pack 2, and that didn't help either.
I'd rather not reinstall Windows XP if I don't have to.
Thanks!
Marty

You aren't at the Uninstall/Reinstall stage yet. Check your fire wall settings, IE may be blocked. Also check your internet options, make sure that under connections and the lan settings button at the bottom, that it's set to automatically detect settings. If it's not checked, then IE could be looking or using a specific setting that is no longer valid

Joe,
Thanks for the reply. I did all those things, but they didn't help.
I bit the bullet and reloaded the Windows XP. I think the computer was sick in the disk, acutually. A good cleaning sometimes works wonders.
