Can't connect to some wireless networks

Question

Recently i had to reformat my computer, but since i reinstalled the drivers i have found that even though i am connected to the wireless network, i do not have internet.

I was browsing the internet and i happened to come across something about my wireless card, (Intel PRO/wireless 3945abg) and enabling the channel selection for an ad hoc 802.11a adapter.

When i went to go check on it, the channel selection for an ad hoc 802.11a adapter is disabled.

So my question is how would i enable it?

Also, has anyone else has encoutered this problem and what have they done to solve it?

An ad-hoc network is a computer to computer connection.  Unless you have two computers with wireless cards that you want to connect with each other, you do not normally want to connect to ad-hoc networks.  To connect to the internet, you want to connect to Infrastructure networks.    When you reinstalled Windows, did you install the chipset drivers and notebook system software before even attempting to install any other device drivers?   Steve

When i ordered the laptop, i had also ordered a CD that contained some drivers with it. I think it was called a system restore CD? But basically, after i reformated the laptop, i popped it in and loaded a few basic drivers onto the laptop. How can i tell what chipset drivers or notebook system software i would have needed to installed? I have an Inspirion E1505 if that helps at all. Andrew

Open Device Manager.  Are there any problem devices listed there?  If there are, which ones are listed as problem devices.   Steve
