cant find router
I have a good dell lap top and a speedtouch one-port modem router for my Telstra Bigpond ADSL.
I have just purchased a Dimension 4700 and a Cisco Sosho 97 modem router.
The speedtouch router works fine with both pc's
When I connect both systems to the cisco router, only the laptop can find the router using http (IE interface). The Dimension just hangs as if the site can't be found!
?? what gives?
Any ideas?
I have checked the IE Advanced options and firewall options and they are identical on both set ups.
Someone mentioned Java but those settings are identical too. The Dimension is only just out of the box and I fear the worst.
I am having other problems with the Dimension insofar that it wont display internet gamees that use shockwave etc
Any help?
Andrew

Make sure that the Dimension 4700 is on the same IP range and subnet that the router and lap top are on.
For example:
If your router is 192.168.1.1 on subnet 255.255.255.0
Then your laptop is (as an example because it can login) 192.168.1.101 on the same subnet.
On your 4700 right click My Network Places" go to "Properties." Right click on your "Local Area Connection" icon and again go to "Properties." Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click "Properties." There enter 192.168.1.102 (Or whatever your ip range is) manually to the NIC, as well as the subnet the router and laptop are on. That should clear up the issue of the 4700 being able to see and login to your router.

Andrew,
Make sure that the IP address of the laptop is something like 192.168.24.23
Make sure the SUBNET of the router is the same as the laptop.
Make sure the IP of the new computer is something like 192.168.24.24 and that it is also on the same subnet mask. It should then have no pproblem accessing the router.

IP of laptop is 192.168.24.17
Mind you, I have a static IP address provided by my ISP that is totally different so not sure how that fits into the equation! (61.9.211.61)
Can't get into the router to check the subnet anymnore but I think it was 255.255.0.0
