Can't scroll horizontally with Firefox

Question

I have an Inspiron 9200 and I use Mozilla Firefox. In IE I'm able to scroll horizontally using the bottom edge on my ALPS touchpad on my laptop but it doesn't work in Firefox. The vertical scroll works but not the horizontal. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

If you have excellent eyesight, is it possible to make the territory covered by your display large enough that you don't HAVE to scroll horizontally?

I have no problem with screen realestate. Most of the time I don't have to horizontally scroll, but sometimes when people make websites with boxes embedded in the page, it's not always coded well and I have to scroll horizontally.

I realize this is an old thread but I have the exact problem on a brand new Vostro laptop.

Horizontal scrolling does work in IE and Word 2007, but in Firefox, there is no response to horizontal scrolling using the touchpad.
