Change a v92 modem to a v90 modem

Question

Hi all. My Mate has just bought a Dell laptop with a Conexant HDA D110mdc V.92 internal modem. We are trying to setup an internet connection here in Spain using a digital trac phone. I can dial up a telephone fine but when we dial up the isp server it begins handshaking and then drops out.   The technician tells me we need a V90 modem and I have also read this on a spanish forum. Is it possible for me to change the modem to a V90 with a firmwarupgrade/downgrade?? Or maybe make it act as a V90 via settings????   Thank you for your time.

V92 uses different a compression for data than V90, I know of no way to change this, you can check the modem in device manager and see if there are any adjustments in there. Do a properties on the modem.

You might can search for a modem string that would force the modem to connect at any speed but I don't know your brand modem too well. Some are backwards compatible. Here is an example of a string that one can use with say a 3com modem.

AT+MS=V90 enables V.90.
AT+MS=V34 disables V.90 and 56KFlex, enables V.34.

Yes, dbramlet is correct. Here is a link to the User's Guide < ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> for that modem. There is a table and it will confirm the AT+MS=V90 setting. You should but this string in the Extra Settings on the Advanced tab. To get there go to Device Manager look down the list for your modem and right click and go to properties. You should then see several tabs click on advanced and there is a blank box where you can put these extra settings.
