Choosing a network to connect to the Internet

Greetings,

I have two connections here at college, both a wireless and a wired. I want to access the Interent through the wired because it's faster and more secured, however no matter what I do the computer defaults to the wireless for internet. The only way I can use the wired connection is to totally disable the wireless which I don't want to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
And remember, it's a series of tubes!

The options available to turn off the wireless depend on which model computer you have and which version of Windows you have.  Perhaps if you provided that information, we could be more helpful.

Yes It would be nice if you could set the adapter as default, like you can do with printers and such.

If you plug in before you turn on the machine, the default connection willbe the wired one since the metric is 0 for that one and 1 for the wireless.  The wireless may show a conenction but the traffic will flow thru the wired connection.  Just turn it off as others have suggested.

Alright, I'm a bit confused. I want both connections enabled because then programs like iTunes can pick up shared music from both wired and wireless, but I want browser access to go through the wired, not wireless. I tried making sure the wired was connected first but the computer always routes internet traffic through the wireless as soon as it's turned on. Any suggestions?
