colors and layout on web pages

I have an XPS400 system and the colors and layout or messed up on web pages. I don't get any colors in the buttons, background. The text all runs together on same pages. Everything is white. I have changed the resolution and have checked Ignore fonts on the web...it seems I have tried everything and nothing is working. Any suggestions? Boxes around buttons are missing, lines separating text paragraphs are missing and everything runs together.

Internet explorer version 6?

Try some other browser(s)

* Bon Echo (FireFox version 2 alpha)
* Maxthon
* Internet Explorer version 7 Beta 2 Preview
* FireFox (current version)

I use all.

I have upgraded to internet explorer 7 beta version and I'm still having the same problem. I have tried Mozilla also with no success. I'm beginning to think this is a Dell problem? Any thoughts?

If this is a brand new system, did you reload Windows? Is it Windows Media Edition?
If you reloaded, you must install first the Chipset drivers and after that the video drivers.
Have you tried changing display settings to minimum with 32-bit color? Maximum? In between?

It may. I am not conversant with Media Edition although my 82-year-old mother has it and likes it. Her computer is not a Dell.

It's been like this since I bought this in January. Yes it has windows media edition. I haven't reloaded anything. I have changed display settings also to a variety of choices without any change. I just found under Tools/Advanced a check box that says: Enable visual styles on buttons and control in web pages. It unchecked - do you think this might make a difference?

I have the same problem.  Did you ever figure out how to solve this?

Sorry but no I haven't figured it out. I spent an hour on the phone with Dell on this and they coulnd't help. I think I have given up. It's frustrating! I run a web site that has phanton logos behind the text as a background and they don't show up on this computer!!! It loses something when I show it to prospective clients. Let me know if you find anything out.

I decided to download another web browser. Now I'm trying Firefox. You can download it at http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
The fonts are showing up the way they are supposed to. I'm still not getting all the background colors. At least I can read the pages without having to change the font size all the time. A lot of people say they like using Firefox.

The only way I could fix the problem was to go back to square one.  I did a system restore to an earlier date before the problem showed up, which was shortly after I got the computer.  After doing that, I reloaded the other software I had installed one by one, making sure that I established a restore point before I loaded each piece of software, just in case one of those created a problem.  All is reloaded now and working fine.  Good luck.

I'm glad to see you have solved the problem. I'm not sure this will work for me since it was like this when I received the computer. Sounds like I might have to reinstall windows and start from ground zero.

Thanks

Kali
