Computer emits a single phone ringing sound randomly
I have a Dimension 8250 pentium 4 with a Conexant Smart Hsf V92 modem. Every 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours a single phone ring sounds on my computer. I disconnected the phone line but that did not help. Fax is the only thing this modem is used for since I have Wireless internet.

Thank you for visiting the Dell Community Forum.
One thing you may want to try is unplugging your system speakers and see if you still hear the ringing sound. This can help isolate if the modem is making the sound or if a program is making the sound through the sound card.

Thanks Stephen! This eliminated the modem as the problem. With some help, we found that for some unknown reason, the sound scheme that I had turned off, reset with all new sounds. When my always on wireless would lose connection then reconnect, I would receive the phone ring. Turned the sound scheme back off, everything's fine.
