Conexant D480 MDC V.9x Modem

Bought a Lattitude D800 and when we leave it turned on and connected via modem to the ISP, sometime during the night it crashes and leaves us with the bluescreen.  It points to a hsfwich.sys file. Intrestingly enough, when we disconnect from the ISP the computer does not blue screen on us.  I am running XP Pro with all the latest updates and the modem driver is dated 10-15-03 version 6.2.9.2.  The Bios is A06 dated 1-22-04.

NOT VERY HAPPY!!!

This is a customer support forum were users (like you) discuss things and help each other… the Dell guys don’t show up much around here so if you want info directly from Dell, you need to contact Dell directly… either email them or call their support numbers…

In September 2004 Dell was evidently still shipping the Latitude D800 with the same faulty driver. I called tech support twice in October 04 for help but the support people had no idea how to fix this and suggested all kinds of crazy remedies, ranging from checkdisk to formatting the C drive. In fact,  they appeared to have never heard of the problem. That is surprising and very disappointing given the reputation of the company.

Some manager at Dell must not be doing his job.

Thanks to Scott's entry way back in February 04 I was able to download the new driver. Time will tell whether it cures the crashes.

New D800, connected to Hotel's BroadBand through ethernet cable, don't think that involves modem.

Overnight, it had rebooted itself (of course wiping last night's work) only error listed was "BugCheck" reboot???

Microsoft now has the new driver on its Windows Update page.

The 'Systems' list for that driver:

Does not list the D800

I recently ugraded my modem (conexant D480 MDC V.9x) to a V.92 using the R72369.exe.  Download and installation went well.  The upgrade should give me a notification of an incomming call when I am on line.  I have an inspiron 8600.  After the installation an icon appeared, knocked me off line but then disapeared.  I do no have any operating discription doument or any idea how it works or if it works.  I have called in while on line (from a cell phone) but the computer doesn't respond and the call never stops ringing (same as before the upgrade).  Note: I am using a V.92 telephone number supplied by my ISP.

First;  D800 is now on the list for this upgraded driver, so I have installed and it seems to work as well as it did before.

V.92 service requires (in addition to the V.92 number from your ISP) that you subscribe to "Call Waiting/Caller ID" (type 2) from your telephone company.  The modem in my LM p133 lists NetWaiting as providing "BVRP" software to make it work.  Go to Start, All Programs and you will see NetWaiting listed with a 'help' option.

Before "V.92" I subscribed to an "Internet Call Manager" service which required "Call Forward Busy" subscription from the phone company and you would set it to forward your calls to their Toll-Free number.

This is $1 per month compared to $5++ for CallWaiting and I have kept that (CFB) and set it to forward incoming calls to my cell phone.  Advantage is that it is completely seamless for caller and no delay while you are notified and deciding how to handle the call.
Disadvantage is that you must turn it off (dial *91) when you do not want it.
