Connecting Laptop to the Internet
hi, i wonder if you can help me. I already have a Dell desktop computer that is connected to the Internet via a telewest broadband modem. This computer is downstairs in my house. However, i am looking to buy the Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, as i am starting university in September and will need this for use mainly upstairs. I want to connect this laptop to the Internet also but am unsure how to do it.
Although, i looked at the details for this laptop and it said i should connect it to the Internet using a Dell 2350 broadband router. But what i want to know is will this be using the same internet connection as my desktop computer or will i be paying for two different Internet bills? what other hardware or software i will need to connect the laptop to the Internet? and will i need any hardware for my desktop computer in order for it to share the same connection to the Internet as my laptop?
I really do not understand this and am in need for desperate help.

Well, when you do this, you will have a some sort of modem (DSL/Cable). If it is DSL, there should be a cable, splitter and filters to use with the other phones. Plug the splitter into the wall jack, then connect the modem to the output side of the splitter using what is a phone cord (RJ11 connector, I think). Then, on the output side of the modem, where there is an ethernet jack (RJ45, I think), plug in a network cable (crossover type) and connect it to the WAN ethernet plug on the router. Then, using regular ethernet cables, connect your desktop to one output (LAN side) ethernet jack, and do the same with your notebook. If you are going wireless, learn about wireless routers and security before you try it out, though most wireless routers have 3 or 4 wired LAN ethernet ports that you can use.
The 6000 should have a wireless card already, but doublecheck the order. The Dell 1350 is fairly reliable for the wireless. The ethernet port on the 6000 will do just fine - you won't need an adapter.
