connecting to internet via LAN

the problem is with a dimension 4600

i am trying to connect to the internet via a broadband router. it has connected before but after a reinstallation of windows it wont recognise the network card
i have tried reinstalling the drivers but still noting happens. in the network connections window found through control panel it displays nothing

any ideas or is there something really blatent that im missing

After you reinstalled Windows, you should have installed the chipset drivers as the first set of drivers installed.  Windows will not be able to recognize many of the devices attached to your computer until the chipset drivers are installed.  Once they are installed, you can then install the network card drivers and anything else that is missing in Device Manager.

The Dell Resource CD.   You can also download them by clicking on the Product Support tab at the top of this forum and selecting Downloads from the drop-down menu.

have you any idea which disk the chipset drivers are on?

If you have no connection, how are you getting on this site?  You can always download to another computer, copy the file to a floppy or CD-R, then move it to the computer onto which you want to install the drivers.

the computer that has the problem is my brothers

yes true i could download and copy across via cd
