Connecting to the internet

All I did was clean the screen and keyboard with an electronic wipe.

if the problem started after cleaning your notebook,,sounds like what you used to clean it is causing the problem...was the electronic wipe wet, and could have gotten underneath the keys, if so, you have problem.s........

It sounds like you did something to the keyboard.  Note that the wireless radio is turned on and off with the Fn F2 key combination.   If the Fn key is stuck or is now malfunctioning, then simply pressing the F2 key may toggle the wireless radio on and off.  If you hold down the Fn key, do the other keys return to their normal behavior?

Sorry for being so vague. I simply cleaned the keyboard and screen with a computer cleaning wipe.

I have Windows xp and my internet connection is with a Belkin wireless router.  What do I do to look at the device manager-orry this is not my area of expertise at all.

 

My FN button does not appear to be stuck????

did you clean you keys with water???if so, sounds like to me that you got them wet, the contact points.

 

i would like it dry for a couple days, possibly you can get them working again, but no quarantee.

You need to be much more specific.  When you say you "did some cleaning", what exactly do you mean?   Did you remove files?  Did you spray it with a hose, put it in the dishwasher, spray it with Windex, etc.  

 

Which version of Windows are you running?  Is the internet connection problem with a wireless connection, ethernet connection, dialup connection etc?  Do these networking devices show up in Device Manager?

 

 As for the keys, is the Fn key stuck down?

If I hold down the FN button the keys then type the correct letter but I have to keep holding the key down to get the correct letters typed out.

The wipes were barely damp-it was only a surface cleaning and there is no way any kind of liquid could have damaged anything.

I have the same model 1501.  I looked at the manual.  It says to enable the number keypad you have to turn the NumLK on.  Then you can use the blue FN key to type the numbers or the letters.  So to disable it, check if the little 9 light is ON above the keyboard.  If it is then turn it OFF with the NumLk key.  That should put it back to normal.

 

I haven't figured out the exact steps/sequences but play around with the NumLk and FN keys until you get want you want.

 

Did you get your wireless working?  Is the little green wifi  light on above the keyboard?  If it's not then use the  FN & F2 keys to toggle it on & off.

You are GREAT!  This info helped the FN key problem-that was exactly what was wrong.  I just tried to connect to my internet and that is now working as well!!
