Connecting to Web via wifi

I have an Inspiron 700m with Intel PRO/Wierless 2200BG wifi software. I can connect to a wireless network with an excelant connection, I cannot however connect to the internet. I currently use Mozilla Fire fox, AOL, and Internet Explorer to connect to the web (my main connection via AOL). I have access to a wireless router and cable modem which my computer both recognizes and connects to, but I still cannot conect to the internet. What must I change in my settings to connect to the web? I also have problems connection to wifi connections in coffee shops and other wifi access points. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you changing the device that is connected to your cable modem?  If so, then you need to do a complete reset of the network every time you make the change, as cable modems remember the last device connected and will not allow another device to connect until the network is reset.   To do this, shut everything off. Wait about 5 minutes. Turn on the modem first, and wait another 5 minutes. Then turn on the device that is connected directly to the modem (either the router or the computer), then turn on any other computers that will connect through the router.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that has not been the problem. My computer sees the cable modem it just will not connect to the internet. I get the "your page cannot be found" message from Mozilla and internet explorer and will just not connect via AOL.

How do you know you are connecting to the cable modem when you are going through the router?  If the router is not connecting to the cable modem, then it would explain the problems you are having.   A computer may be able to connect directly to the modem, but when you disconnect the computer and connect the router, the router will not be able to connect to the modem until you do the reset procedure.  It is not clear from your message that you have done this.   The waiting time is important in the reset process!

Hi, did you get this issue resolved?  I have a similar problem:  Good connection to my new AOL supplied wireless router, (speedtouch).  When I try to connect to AOL or Internet Explorer I get the message 'DNS server unreachable or unavailable. (24-01-08-033)  In fairness AOL have been quite helpful because yesterday I couldn't even get the wireless connection but they eventually they did it.  They think the issue is now a DEL issue and something in 'settings' needs to be changed.

The problem was resolved and it was just a change in settings. Not quite sure which changes, but whatever it was it worked.
