connection problem to LAN , view workgroup computers showing no computers on new Dimension 8400
Hi ,
Trying since some weeks to connect new 8400 to existing LAN ( 8300 + Laptop + Router )
-connection of new 8400 to Internet is working fine through existing router
-when viewing workgroup computers :
existing 8300 sees the 3 computers even the new one
new 8400 shows nothing ( no computer pictogram )
- ping to router of course ok
on the keyboard of the new 8400 :ping to own IP adress or own computer name give time out .
Which suggestion do you have ?
Thanks in advance and happy Christmas from Belgium / Daniel

Hi ,
new 8400 / LAN issues
I am connected straight to the router and as mention Internet is working fine . I checked all other proporties to connect o TCP IP and it seems to be ok . Reason why afterwards i PING the new computer . Ping to his own adress and to his own computer name give time out .
I will nevertheless make some cable changes .
Any advice why pinging own IP adress is not working ? My first computer ( 8300 ) is seeing the new one in the workgroup since installation .
Thanks for further advice Daniel

How many firewalls are running other than Windows? If you have something like Norton or McAfee running in addition to Windows firewall, you will need to shut down all but one of them.
What type (brand) of router is this?

Check in Services to see if Workstation has been disabled . . that will keep the pc from seeing others on the network.
