Connection problem with Dell 1500 Draft 802.11n wireless minicard
Hi,
I am unable to connect to an unsecured wireless network with my new Inspiron E1505 with the Dell 1500 Draft 802.11n wireless minicard. I've tried both WZC and Dell utilities, manually configured my connection profile, updated the BIOS and drivers, and every other troubleshooting protocol I've been able to find. I can see the network but can not connect. It uses a Belkin Pre-N modem/router. I know the network is up, because I'm using it right now with a friend's computer. Any ideas?
I tried to reach Dell Support, but the Dell wireless networking online chat is never available, and I cannot get through on the support telephone line. Portables Chat told me they do not have the knowledge or expertise to help me. Plus Dell tech telephone support does not recognize my Express Service Code. Is Dell support always this bad? Wish I'd known before I bought a Dell computer!

Join the crowd. Dell is sending me a new card that I have to put in myself even though I have paid for the 4 year every thing service plan. I have only been able to connect to 1 of 5 routers. It sees them all but will not connect. I know for a fact it will not connect to A Belkin pre-n or a Westell from Verizon or a Motorola sb. I was on the phone for three hours with Dell before they decided to send out a new one, Which I do not feel will fix the problem.
The card was released to soon. It is not that good at connecting to 802.11B & G routers as it says it will in all the documentation. The Dell E1505 I bought 3 weeks ago with the B,G card works fine. My next move will be to have dell send me a 802.11B & G bluetooth card for this machine and all will be well. I am a net work administrator and I do not hold out much hope for this card. My people need much better backwards compatibilty that the 1500 Draft N card is giving us.

I think Dell makes a great computer, they are just having problems with this card.

Thanks for your reply. I finally got through to Wireless Support and was told the 1500 is "not backwards compatible" contrary to all the sales and other documentation on the product. Support said it is compatible with "very few routers, namely Linksys and Netgear." Obviously, if I had known that I would have chosen an earlier-model card when I bought my computer and, incidentally, saved a few dollars. Dell readily offered to send me a 1490, but refused to refund the difference in price. Customer service said is "not our policy." It's only $23, but the principle matters a great deal, I think. As a consumer, this seems like a bit of a bait-and-switch to me. I think they should pull this card or at the very least advertise it truthfully.
Buyers beware.

The Linksys WAP is model WRT54GX http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1823408,00.asp
We have literally dozens of notebooks and portables (ex: iMac) using these WAP routers, Dell, IBM/Lenovo, Mac, etc. and no problem except with the 1500 minicard.
