D620 WLAN Utility won't launch - Internal configuration is inconsistent

Wireless card is Dell Wirele4ss 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini-Card

Each time I try to launch the Dell WLAN Utility I get a message:

"Internal configuration is inconsistent. Please restart the machine to resolve the problem."

Restarting does not solve the problem.

The wireless card connects fine with Windows managing the connection. But what about the Dell Utility? What can be done so it will launch and I can let it manage the wireless connections?

I have reinstalled the Driver and utility using R115319.EXE

Any ideas why?

1. Yes, I am using the latest R140747 (A10) driver.
2. Disabling everything else will cause other issues.  This will not make a difference with the WLAN / WLTRAY driver.
3.  This only happens when the utility is opened.  Existing profiles will connect, but new ones cannot be defined.

The following registry key will enable the opening of the utility, but must be reset after every boot:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Broadcom\802.11]
"IsJustInstalled"=dword:00000001

Hi Gina,

Thank you for getting back to us on this thread.  I'm sorry that I wasn't able to respond sooner... In answer to your questions.

1. I have installed R140747.
2. I still receive the message, "Internal configuration is inconsistent," when trying to open the wireless utility.
3. This message only occurs when trying to open the wireless utility.

On a side note, adding the registry DWord "IsJustInstalled," = 1, I am able to open the wireless utility.

Unfortunately, even with this utility, my wireless connection still drops within 5-10 minutes.  The only way I've found to reestablish the connection is to restart the system.

If there's anything else I can provide, please say the word.

Thanks again!

i'm having the exact same problem. i'm on an inspiron e1405, dell wireless 1390.  i'm having problems connecting to my home network and am getting the same error message when attempting to open the utility.  dell support was useless.

I have the exact same problem. I'm on a Latitude D600, dell wireless 1300. I get the same error message each time I try to run the utility.

Ok..  I searched a lot on the Forum / Net and could not get anything to work.. finally this is what i did to resolve my problem.

I have a Dell 620 with a 1390 card Broadcom card.

PreWork.
Take a system state backup (just incase :smileywink: )
Download the latest R140747

Delete the keys:
HKLM\Software\Broadcom
HLCU\Software\Broadcom
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\wltrysvc
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\ROOT\LEGACY_WLTRYSVC
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet001\ENUM\ROOT\LEGACY_WLTRYSVC

Delete the following files:

C:\Program FIles\Broadcom

Next steps:
1. Go to Services.msc -> and disable "Wireless Zero Configuration"
2. Reboot System.
3. Unpack and install R140747.
4. Reboot the system.

Thats it.. Once the system comes up.. Dell Utility should start working.

No need to scrap your system and reinstall.

Enjoy!

This worked for me on a D610 with WinXPSP2 and a 1370 Broadcom ;however,
a D610 with Win2000sp4 and same 1370 Broadcom it did not work. There must be something in the Windows updates that is causing this to happen on both OS with same hardware and drivers.

Sadly, that didn't work for me on a Dell Precision M70 with WLAN 1350.:smileysad:

I just use the workaround to merge a registry file containing IsJustInstalled after each reboot.

I had to make the following slight adjustments to the earlier post:

Delete the keys:
HKLM\Software\Broadcom
HLCU\Software\Broadcom
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\ Services\wltrysvc
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\ROOT\LEGACY_WLTRYSVC - couldn't delete?
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet001\ENUM\ROOT\LEGACY_WLTRYSVC

Delete the following files:

C:\Program FIles\Broadcom - C:\Program Files\Dell\Dell Wireless WLAN Card

Next steps:
1. Go to Services.msc -> and disable "Wireless Zero Configuration"
2. Reboot System.
3. Unpack and install R140747.
4. Reboot the system.

I found that the when uninstalling the Dell WLAN application that it did a dirty uninstall on Windows 2000. Here's what I've found to work using previous suggestions and modifying for both XP and Win2000

WIN XP Fix

1.      Download the latest R140747

2.      Go to Add/remove Programs and Uninstall Dell Wireless WLAN Card

Start -->Run-->regedit and Delete the keys if they exists:

3.      HKLM\Software\Broadcom

4.      HKCU\Software\Broadcom

Next steps:

5.      Go to Services.msc -> and disable "Wireless Zero Configuration"

6.      Reboot System.

7.      Unpack and install R140747.

8.      Reboot the system.

Thats it.. Once the system comes up.. Dell Utility should start working.

WIN 2000 Fix –

1.      Download the latest R140747

2.      Go to Add/remove Programs and Uninstall Dell Wireless WLAN Card

Start -->Run-->regedit and Delete the keys if they exists:

3.      HKLM\Software\Broadcom

4.      HKCU\Software\Broadcom

Reboot -->F8 for Safe Mode and Delete these files if they exists in the System32 directory: (Either WINNT\System32 or Windows\System32)

5.      bcmwlcpl.CPL

6.      bcm1xsup.dll

7.      BCMWLTRY.EXE

8.      bcmwlpkt.dll

9.      bcmwlu00.exe

10.  BCMWLNPF.SYS

11.  BCMLogon.dll

Next steps:

12.  Reboot System.

13.  Unpack and install R140747.

14.  Reboot the system.

Thats it.. Once the system comes up.. Dell Utility should start working.

If the XP fix doesn't work for you also try 2000 fix as you may have experienced a dirty uninstall of dell application.

After trying all the above options unsuccessfully, I solved it another way.
1. Extract the R140747 Patch, the default directory is C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R140747
2. Disable the Wireless Zero Configuration service
3. Uninstall the Dell WLAN Software
4. Remove the registry keys listed above
5. Reboot the machine
6. Let windows find that there is unknown hardware
7. Point the find new hardware wizard to that C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R140747 directory
8. Let windows install the driver but not the associated software.
9. Start up the Wireless Zero Configuration service
10. Windows should now be managing the wireless

hope this helps.

I think I have a similar issue.  The Wireless Network Connection / Adapter is GONE.  I had Windows managing the device succesfully for months, but suddently the desktop tray icon is gone and I can't get the utility to launch no matter what I try.

No Wireless Adapter, Connection, Manager, anything is present.  The Dell Wireless LAN Card Utility won't launch either.

Very strange.
