Dell 1184 router and Web Cam

Since I have installed the Dell 1184 router. I can't get my web cam to function as it did using Yahoo Messanger. I can connect to the web fine, but the camera will not connect. It tries 3 times and finally says "a network error has occurred. Cold it be the built in firewall? If so, how do I configure the router to let the web cam connect. Thanks in advance for any help

The question has been asked several times on this forum, but I don't recall anyone finding a solution with the 1184 router.  On most routers you can either use the port mapping feature to open specific ports throught the router's firewall or use the DMZ to open all ports on one computer.  The 1184 presumably supports both of these features, but documentation is sparse and, like most router manufacturer's, support is usually not provided on these options (they say use at your own risk).  See if the documentation for the 1184 has specific instructions for perfoming either of these options.

I have the same problem. If I connect directly to my ISP my web cam works fine. If I connect with the router it does not work. Dell said I had a defective 1184 router. They sent me a new one. I still have the problem. They told me to look here.  I am looking.

Several users have found that downgrading the firmware on the 1184 solves the webcam problem.  Try an advanced forum search.
