Hello,

Did anything happen, such as an update, system lock up, or shut down 3 days ago that might be the cause of the problem?    Is this happening only with your network at home or have you tried connecting the system to other public networks, like at a coffee shop?

Here is a link to the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center.  That would be my first recommendation.  Check out the support articles and guides in that center, they may help you figure out what is wrong with the wireless connection.

Are you still running Windows 7 on that system?  And which wireless card do you have?   You may want to go to our main Dell support page, input your service tag, and the pages will redirect you to the support center for  your model.   Click on the Drivers & Downloads link, and after those driver downloads are listed check to make sure it is listing the correct operating system for what you have on your system.  You'll find upgrade drivers listed under the Networking tab for the Drivers & Downloads.   Download the latest drivers and install them on your laptop.  That may help resolve whatever problem you've been seeing.

Let us know about the operating system and wireless card you have, as well as what other troubleshooting steps you tried out of the Wireless Support Center, and we'll see what else we can suggest to help you.

Hey Todd my system didn't update lock or shutdown I'm not completely sure if it's just my home I haven't brought my laptop anywhere in the last month but I am leaving Saturday for a trip so I guess I'll find out them I am running windows 7 and my service tag has been taken off of my laptop I'm not completely sure on how to find my operating system and wireless card I'm not very tech savvy as you can tell but I tried putting my ip in manually and ticking somthing like interface mask. Also when I click change adapter setting there local wireless connection and it has an X on the left hand corner of it

Hello,

Check to make sure wireless is turned on by holding down the (blue i think on that mode?) FN key and then tapping the F2 key.

Here is the quick start guide that shows the various function keys and what they do on the N5050.

If you've set a static IP address and changed the subnet mask please change those back to being assigned by the router.  Otherwise you'll never connect to any router other than your own.

If you click on the START button, then Control Panel and once that opens up click System and Security, and then finally under System click Device Manager.  That will list the components on your system.

To find your service tag click on the START button again then All Programs.  On the list should be a folder for Dell software.  Click on that to open it up and you should see a file that has information on your service tag and warranty information.

Well this is awkward. Now my laptop just goes to a black screen after it shows the dell logo.

Have you tried hooking it up to an external monitor to see if you can see the desktop screen on a monitor?  Have you tried starting the system in Safe Mode or going into the system setup?

Here is some info on troubleshooting no POST / No BOOT systems.  Hopefully all your symptoms are simply caused by a Windows error and can easily be resolved.
