Dell Inspiron 6400 wireless connection

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with a built in Intel Pro/wireless 3945AB card. I have never able to getthis card to work with my wireless network at home or anywhere else except in Hong Kong. I have tried every trick I know of to get this to work without luck. When configured to my wireless network, the card indicated it was get very strong signal but wouldn't let me get to the internet. However, when I used other wireless devices ( Linksys & Belkins) via the USB ports, it was no problem and straight to the internet. Anyone out there experienced the same problem? or a solution to my problem. I am fed up of lugging another bit to attach to the laptop itself. I am using TalkTalk as my ISP ( big mistake!) but after some three months of problem at least I can use the connection and the broadband modem is a Belkin Wireless G.

It sounds like you have the TCP/IP properties set to a static IP address.   To check, go to Start > Run and type cmd then click OK. In the command prompt window that opens, type ipconfig /all then hit the enter key. Look under the wireless network connection and see if DHCP is enabled (set to yes).  If it isn't then you need to open Network Connections, right click your wireless network connection, find the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and set it to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically".

Hi,

Since your able to get online using other wireless devices like linksys n belkin usb device, but not thru the intel 3945, I would recommend a driver update for your wireless card.

Uninstall the current driver from Add/remove programs and then click on the following link and download the drivers for your wireless card.

Intel Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection, v.10.5.0.2 (TIC 122640), A06
Regards,
Jess
