Dell Network Assistant Help? (repost... so plz reread)
My prior post was deleted due to some questionable language so am reposting as permitted by the notification. Someone did respond to my original post but I can't read it since the thread was removed. Please repost if you get this as I am really searching for answers to teh following.... .................................... Scenario... a client just purchased a new Diminsion Desktop. He has 4 other Dell systems, all XP, on an internal network. The Diminsion did not see anything on his network. Finally disabled the firewall and the machine occasionaly on a restart will see other machines along the network via Netbios (MSHOME), usually not tho. It is of course painful as he needs to be able to share files across his network... He acquired Dell Network Assistant. When I ran it, it immediately saw the other machines on his network. Cool I thought. I was able to login into shares on the other machines. Way cool I thought. But, when I went to an application (Photoshop) on the same machine, *it* did not see the shared network. Anything. In other words, Dell Network Assistant worked fine by itself. But it did not solve the file sharing problem at the applicaiton layer. Questions are... and I am going to experiment with this tmrw but thought to ask here to see if anyone had an opinion... does the Dell Network Assistant need to be on BOTH sides for the shares to work? It can assist in setting up shares, and it definitely sees the other machines and allows for interaction... but it does NOT solve the MSHOME/windows file sharing at the application layer. It is of course, hair pulling. Anyone know if Dell Network Assistant needs to be on both machines for it to set up the shares so they are seen, allowing something like Photoshop to Save As onto a share on another machine?
