Hi Sonupandey,

Thank you for responding. Updating BIOS take 3 - 5 minutes depending on the internet speed available. The BIOS update that I recommended is version A15 and is compatible with 'Windows 7 64 bit' operating system installed in your laptop.

If the internet connection is lost while the file is getting downloaded, no change is caused to the operating system. You will have to download the file again once the internet connection is re-established. However, if the internet connection is lost while the downloaded BIOS file is getting installed, it does not impact the installation process. The installation should finish successfully. Please ensure that you perform the following steps before flashing the BIOS:

- Battery should have 10% or greater charge
- Adapter should be connected
- No external devices should be connected
- All other programs should be closed and documents saved

Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

Thanks Sourabh once again for reply,

i have installed windows 7 again and update the bios also. It will not affect my Hardware ?? I means to say this version is compatible windows 7 or not????

Hi Sonupandey,

The BIOS version is compatible with Windows 7. Updating system BIOS updates the firmware permanently. If you choose to upgrade the operating system in future, BIOS firmware remains updated. Hope this helps.

Hi sourabh

My laptop fan is rotating so much in windows 7. Before update the bios its rotating speed is normal but now it increase.

Can you tell me why it is happening????

Hi Sonupandey,

I provided the steps to clean the fan vents in my previous post. I assume that you have already done that. The increased noise from the system fan may be either due to high CPU usage or due to a fan issue. Please follow the steps listed below:

1. View CPU utilization: Use the Performance tab in Task Manager to see how your computer's CPU is being used by Windows and other programs running on your computer.
- Start the Task Manager by pressing the Ctrl, Alt and Delete at the same time
- This will show a screen with several options
- Choose "Start Task Manager." This will open the Task Manager Program window
- Click the "Performance" tab. In this screen, the first box shows the percentage of CPU usage
- Then click on CPU tab once and check for the application with the maximum CPU usage

- Right click on that application (make a note of the process) and click ‘End process tree’
- Re-check the status of noise from fan

2. If CPU usage is not high, run 'Dell 32 Bit Custom Diagnostics' on the fans
Follow the steps I provided in one of my previous post to initiate diagnostics. Once you reach the following screen, use the instructions listed below:

- After you reach the following screen, tap
When the Dell Diagnostics main menu appears, select the test you want to run
- Select Custom Test (Refer to image below)

- Click <+> sign besides 'Fan' (Refer to image below)
- Place a tick mark in 'Non-Interactive Tests Only'
- Click 'Run Test'

- For any problem encountered during a test, a message appears with an error code and a description of the problem
- Write down the error code and problem description exactly as it appears

Do reply with the findings. I would be glad to assist.

Hi Sonupandey,

Please provide an update on results of 'diagnostic test' on the system fan. Fan noise may occur due to an issue with the fan also. You may click the following link to access the previous BIOS versions for your laptop:  http://dell.to/RbyzjJ (Click Previous versions to view all)
Note: Before flashing the BIOS please check the following:
- Battery should have 10% or greater charge
- Adapter should be connected
- No external devices should be connected
- All other programs should be closed and documents saved
Note: Downgrading BIOS is not recommended.

Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

Hey Sourabh

While i am updating mt bios, I am getting message that dell is not recomended you to update the old version and software get stop. What is this????

October 10th, 2012 05:00

Hi Sonupandey,

Updated version of BIOS for any computer is released to fix existing bugs or issues; and to enhance the capability and performance of the system. Therefore downgrading BIOS is not recommended. As I suggested in my previous post, running 'Custom Test' on 'system fan' will be a more appropriate troubleshooting step before downgrading the BIOS. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

Hey Sourabh

Tell anyway to minimize the heating problem in system because after updating the bios it is heating so much....:(

October 11th, 2012 11:00

Hi Sonupandey,

As I mentioned in my previous post, the system heating up may be because of fan failure. Please run custom test on the system fan and update.
