I have an Inspiron 1545 with Dell Wireless module 365 and Windows 8, and it seems that it worked with the Dell Wireless 380 module. But not yet tested.

Press [Win] and [ r ] and type appwiz.cpl in the run box and press enter. Uninstall any programs related to the Bluetooth.

Press [Win] and [ r ] and type devmgmt.msc in the run box and press enter. Right click any device under Bluetooth radio and select uninstall. In addition see if there is any mention of Bluetooth Devices under Network adapters and likewise right click and select uninstall.

Restart your computer and reattempt the broadcom update.

Check out this post here:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/error-message-cannot-start-the-bluetooth-stack/38cc3e5e-2d5b-4aa6-9526-e43c879d64fc

  • Click WINDOWS +R on your keyboard
  • Type services.msc
  • Check that every service, having name "Bluetooth ...", in the list isn't disabled
  • If it has "Disabled" in "Startup Type" column, double-click on the service
  • Change "Startup type:" to "Automatic"

If that fails try disabling all the Bluetooth Services and restarting your computer, then re-enabling them.

Hi Natakuk4

You suggest that the correct Win 8 driver for the 1704 is Network_BRCM_1704_W78_A01_Setup-P0HGH_ZPE.exe.

I installed the one that was listed for my service tag, i.e. DW1704_W8_X01_A00_Setup-321H1_ZPE.exe

Can you clarify if the one I installed is the correct and most recent one, or should I install the one you recommend?

I's an Inspiron 15R n5250

thanks

Max

Network_BRCM_1704_W78_A01_Setup-P0HGH_ZPE.exe is WLAN_6.30.59.74/BT_12.0.0.2200 - 211 MB

DW1704_W8_X01_A00_Setup-321H1_ZPE.exe is WLAN_6.30.59.26/BTW_12.0.0.1600 - 202 MB

The one I suggested is only very slightly newer, both will probably work fine with your system.

Thanks Philip, will give the new one a try

Working in DELL Inspiron 15 with Windos 8 and Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Module?

January 31st, 2013 13:00

I have this exact same problem and no one seems to have any answer as to what will actually solve it. I've tried a dozen different solutions and nothing seems to work.

Dell has told me on the phone that it's my problem....very helpful.

What problem? Model of Dell and Wireless Card/Bluetooth Card?

The problem where installing the driver says access denied or trouble starting the Microsoft Bluetooth stack.

I have a 375 card in a LatitudeE5420.

Thanks for the additional insight!

Although this wasn't the full fix to the situation, it did send me down the path of getting to the correct one.

I attempted Beg21's fix and it didn't work exactly as he described, but after messing around with ownership, permissions, importing, and exporting I was finally able to get some combination of taking ownership and granting permissions that gave me access to the keys under the BTHPORT tree. I actually had to remove inheritance from them and explicitly apply the permissions. Then, once I had done that I went back to the parent and reapplied inheritance and it stuck.

Even after I was able to get those permissions set, the Windows Update install still did not work (gave the generic "Windows update encountered an error" message).

I remembered someone else saying that the Broadcom drivers worked better, so I went back out to the Broadcom installer site and on first attempt it was still unable to start the Bluetooth stack. It recommended (as it always has) to reboot and try again and after that reboot the Broadcom installer was finally able to get the drivers installed.

Thanks for starting me down the path that finally worked. This has been a huge nuisance for me for over 2 months!
