Dell Wireless WLAN card utility not working + Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG problems
OS: Vista Home Premium
Model: Inspiron 1420
Wireless Card: Intel Pro Wireless 3945 ABG Network Adapter
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 8400M GS
Problem: Basically, the past few days, I have experienced "hiccups" with my wireless, at times the screen would freeze for a second or so (display lag - FPS drops). Then after a few more spikes/screen lag, my "WiFi" light would go off in an "ON" position.
But when i turn it off and on (manual button), the light would stay off until i reboot again...
Also when i tried to access my "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility", it gives me a message "The wireless network adapter could not be accessed. This application may have diminished functionality as a result." Then it shows up this window with all the labels empty.
PS: All my drivers are up-to-date.
Any help? =(
Thanks!

How can you access an Intel Wireless card with a Dell utility program? I htought those were only for Dell cards?
Use the WZC (Windows Zero Configuration) utility to mange the connection. It does a better job.

Right click the adpater and go to properties and hit the configure button and you will see some dialog in there about letting Windows ma.ange the conenction. Sorry to be vague but I don't have a wireless machine in form of me, in fact we don't allow them to be used or the utility programs to be installed.

Thanks though!
And it is still disconnecting (WiFi light shutting off) when i do internet-intensive activities (IE: games / downloads)... Then i would require a reboot to fix my WiFi. -___-
Not to mention my FPS spikes before WiFi dies... >.<

Dear all,
I would like to know which non Dell Wireless adaptor works in Inspiron. I have tried Cisco, Intel etc but none of them work. According to the Cisco support person the defect is in the Dell Bios which makes the card come one later than usual. Also all these cards not working in Inspiron work well in Dell Diamension PC.
If anyone has any clue to solve this?

You help no one, in particular yourself by jumping in the middle of a thread. Please start a new one and be specific with models and OS. I hardly think Dell is oging to ship something that isn't working out of the box.

I see no reason for this extremely emotional response whereas my problem is exactly same as the one mentioned in the thread.
I suspect this forum only consists of people on the payroll of Dell who cannot bear to listen to any problem much like the support help line.
And what I have mentioned is factual and Dell has shipped such lemons to a lot of people who are then stonewalled by the support & the so called forum users who are only there to further particular interests.

Extremely emotional? Hardly.
On the Dell Payroll? I wish. I could use a few extra $$$.
Start a new thread and calm down. You still have yet to provide a model so it is very difficult to help you. See you in the new thread.

i still have this problem with the latest drivers, this has been an ongoing issue for atleast a year now... it seems that a lot of people with this issue have dealt with it by simply ceasing to complain or giving up and switching network cards. I for one would appreciate a fix that doesn't require me to open up my laptop and conduct a hardware swap.
Has Dell found a fix for this issue yet? is dell / intel even still working on this? shouldn't this issue be addressed in the technical support knowledge bank? I found one piece talking about the wifi light going off, but it says connectivity is still preserved when it is clearly not for many users...
Looking forward to a solid response regarding this issue!

I was able to fix this issue in case anyone runs into this. I found out that the wireless utility was creating the problem, I uninstalled the wireless utility and just installed the drivers and that worked. or you can go into the settings of the utility program and just uncheck the manage wireless adapter.
