Dell Wirless 1450 Card Speed randomply changes and Connectivity Problems

I just bought two new Lattitude D600's that came with the Dell Wireless 1450 Dual Band card.   We have a Dell Trubmobile 802.11b wireless router her in my office.   Both laptops randomly drops the network connection.  The speed also randomly changes from 11Meg to 5.5Meg to 2Meg then back to 11Meg on both laptops.  Signal shoes excellent on both.    As I type this is just went from 11Meg down to 2Meg.

I have another D600 that has an Intel 2100 card and it has no problems at all and stays at 11Meg all the time.

I called Dell and they said this is the first they have heard of this and recommended updating drivers. I did this on both and it did not fix the problem.  I'm thinking of ditching these cards and going back to the intel cards but wondered if anyone else is experiencing this?

Thanks.

Bill

I'm not familar with that router, but have you tried changing the router's wireless broadcasting channel to see if that will make a difference? Just trying to rule out interference from something else in or near the vicinity.

ccmsi,

DELL-BobT put together a good set of wireless troubleshooting tips that you may find helpful.

What is strange though is the Intel Pro cards work perfect. No problems.  My concern is these laptops are for sales reps that travel. I"m worried they will have problems out in the field (hotels, airports, etc)

Is anyone else using this card out and about. Are you having problems with it?

tks.

I recently swapped out an old laptop for a D400 with a 1450 and have had exactly the same experience you describe. Fortunately, I had an old 1150 card and am using that...no problems. Tops out at 11Mbps (b) but at least it stays connected.

BTW...I contacted Dell about the 1450 and got the same non-answer. They even swapped it out for a new card...same problem.

I guess they have some work to do on that card.  The Intel 2200 works much better but I still think the Intel pro 2100 works the best.  I was in the Vega airport yesterday which has free wireless.  My 2200 card couldn't connect but my partners 2100 worked great.

I'm currently having the exact same issue with my 1400, Sounds like you just gave up. Any luck with getting it to work?

no luck.  I have to contractors that do some programming for us they I just found out they have similar problems.  They have broadcomm wireless cards in HP laptops.

I have had no problems since installing the IntelPro card.

I too am having the same problem.  The connection drops every 15-20 minutes.  I have the following setup:

Rounter: D-Link DI-624 Rev c

Dell Inspiron 9100 with True Mobil 1450

Windows XP Professional

I have tried the following:

(1) Update the router to the latest firmware.

(2) Update the Inspiron's BIOS

(3) Update Windows XP (SP2)

(4) Update Drivers

(5) Remove and re-seat the mini pci card

(6) Did a repair on the connection.

(7) Set the channel to from Auto to 6, then 6 to 10.

(8) Disabled IEEE 802.1x authentication

(9) Disabled Norton Internet Security and verified that Windows firewall was disabled.

(10) Removed cordless phones.

(11) Moved Laptop closer to Router (approx 4-5 ft)

(12) Reset the Router and Cable Modem

I also have a Dell Dimension that is connected to the router via cat5 to the router and it works fine providing that I set the on-board NIC to 10 mb (due to an issue with the on-board NIC - won't stay connected at 100 mb).

Any help would be appreciated.  I'm am seriously considering returning the 1450 and getting a different WLAN card becasue I am spending more time troubleshooting the d_mn (so much for the 1st ammendment)  thing than actually using it!!

Call dell and swap out for a Intel 2200.  They work much better.
