dial up password save

I am so clueless that I don't even know under what subject to post my question.  My daughter and I both have new Dell Inspirons with Windows XP home.  When we set our dial up connections to save our password and dial automatically, each time we return to that feature, there has been a different (much longer) password inserted.  If I don't catch it and retype it, I get an error message from my server.  I've tried changing it every place I can access those settings (from outlook, from IE, directly in the networking settings) and NOTHING makes a difference.  I called Dell support and the tech claimed that he'd never heard of this problem.  It seems highly suspicious to me that the only two people I know with new Inspirons/Windows XP (me and my daughter) have the same issue and Dell has never heard of it.  Can anyone help?  Keep it as simple as possible please.

Thank you,

Debbie Laxague

Thank you.  I told you I was clueless.  And I figured it must be a Windows issue, too.  But the Dell support instructions say that if was a factory installed program they are the ones to contact for problems, if I understand them correctly.

This is a slow forum, so if no one answers, try posting it in the Software - Windows XP forum.  Also view your first post, then click the Message Options, then Edit Message, and remove your email address or it will be found by a web email gatherer and you will get spammed.

The Software - Windows XP (or other versions) is part of these Dell forums - use the pulldown at the top of this page to go there - since no one has popped in with the answer, and I don't know XP, your best bet is to try posting there - you weren't wrong posting here (I would have also), but no one has helped yet, and the Software forums have good helpers there.  All part of the "Dell Community"!
