Dialup sound not heard in speakers

Hello all, Please help me with my problem which is that during dialup, the dialing and connecting tones are not heard through the laptop speakers, in fact no sound is heard, and I have to lift a parallel telephone to confirm if the modem is dialing and if the number is engaged. Please help me over...

I am using WinXP Pro SP2. | 3Com 56K V.90 Mini PCI Modem.

When you say no sound is heard at all, do you mean AT ALL? Or no sound related to the modem? You can change the dialing volume in the modem properties.

All the system sounds can be heard without any problems, only the modem dialing and connecting tones are not heard, eventhough the volume in modem properties is turned right to the max.. .

Any soulution for this ?
