Dimension 2400 broadcom NIC ethernet not working
Hi All,
I've got a brand new Dimension 2400 (3 days old). It's a great machine (love the 17" flat screen).
But I'm having a problem hooking it up to my home network.
The broadcom 440x NIC that comes with it simply doesn't work.
yes I can ping to 127.0.0.1 and also ping to its automatically assigned local address.
If I manually set the ip numbers of the home and laptop I cannot ping to the laptop.
I've tried two different ethernet cross-over cables, and I've verified that the cables and the
laptop work ok with other computers.
I haven't seen anything in the forums to suggest a direct answer, though I suspect the
BIC is just shipped stuffed.
The NIC driver is dated 30/6/2003 and is version 3.63.0.0.
Anyone else has the same problem and resolved this?
I'm not using routers or anything at the moment, jsut simply want to
attach a laptop to the computer via a crossover cable.
Cheers,
Roland

forgot to mention that I've tried duplex/half-duplex at 10 and 100 Mb with no luck
(fixed on both computers)

Go to control panel.
Select Classic View on the sidebar on the left.
Doubleclick System.
Select the Hardware tab at the top of the window.
Click the button Device Manager.
Find Network Adapters in the list and click the little plus sign.
Right click on the card and select 'properties' from the little menu that pops up.
Click on the Driver tab at the top of the window.
Click the button that says 'Uninstall'. Don't worry, we're going to reinstall it afterwards.
Click 'Yes' despite the warning.
Reboot. For me the ethernet card was reinstalled when I rebooted and worked fine after that. You may have to go through the Add Hardware wizard but you shouldn't have to download any drivers.
Hope this helps,
Sean

I didn't think of that.
If it works, I will put you in the hall of absolute legends.
