Dimension 4500S doesn't see new network card
Trying to help my boss (6 hours away) install and use SBC DSL service. He has Dell Dimension 4500S/Windows XP. Basic problem is when installing new network interface card, we don't get any indication that the machine "sees" new hardware. Plug and Play doesn't see it when rebooting and if you go in manually to "My Computer/Device Manager/etc", you also don't see the card. The card is a DLink DFE530tx. When talking to SBC, they suggested that our PCI Slot may be a "dummy" slot and not hooked up.
They suggested removing Modem card (which I use for PC Anywhere) and trying to hook up ethernet card there. Not very keen on using any suggestions from SBC as they seem to be grasping at straws.
I'm perfectly capable with adding driver information, however the machine has to recognize the hardware first. Right?

As a troubleshooting step, I would recommend trying swapping slots between the modem and the network card. If the network card works and the modem stops working you would know what the problem is.

i am currently having this exact same problem although im using a belkin 10/100 NIC
also when the comptuer starts up it spits out a plug and play error and claims that the keyboard has failed.
any ideas?
