Disconnecting When Dialing the Phone, need help

Question

hey guys, i have verizon dsl on my laptop and my downstairs desktop. These two computers are networked together (wireless). Whenever the phone rings at my house, and someone actually picks up the phone, both computers get disconnected from the interent. It allows me to sign back on after about a minute regardless if someone is on the phone or not. Then once I am back on the internet and the person hangs up the phone I get disconnected again. So whenever the phone is either answered or hung up the internet connection is lost. Does anyone know how to solve my problem or have any suggestions?

Is your phone a cordless phone? Wirless networks work at hte same frequency (2.4GHz) as some/most cordless phones..which is probably what is happening..try using a 900MHz or 5.8GHz phone..or try moving ur current phone as far away from ur computers and router as possible..

both phones are indeed wireless phones. but both are at 900 MHz. The upstairs phone is directly next to my laptop because both are on the same desk, so its about a foot away. The downstairs phone is about 10 feet from the router. Dont know if that would effect anything, but any suggestions

SupaStar1568, If you have a wired ('POTS') telephone, try connecting it and see if you get the same symptom when you make a call with it. If so, I'd suspect ADSL filter installation problems or one of the other issues mentioned in the DSL Reports article I cited. If the problem began suddenly, think about what changes were made just before the problem began that might have caused it. Jim

The answer is quite simple. You need phone filters. I got 3 filters from my DSL provider.   Altough DSL runs on a higher frequency than your normal telephone call, when someone uses the phone interference occurs and as a result you get disconnected.   Install Phone line filters on every phone slot and i guarantee you wont have a problem again.

now would i have to go to verizon to get these phone filters? Or is it a typical product I can purchase at like a best buy or walmart type of place?

DSL filters can be purchased at places like Radio Shack. The idea is to use them for all telephone devices (phones, answering machines, etc.), but not the DSL modem connection. That one needs to be unfiltered.

Thanks guys for your help. The filters came with the DSL kit that I got a while ago. I just never hooked them up. I hooked them up and the problem is solved, thanks guys for your help!!!!
