Does your router drop connection ever after 3 months?

My router DI-624 can't seem to hold a connection for more then 3 months or so. Is this normal? Does anybody else wireless router can't hold a connection for more than 3-4 months? Just dropped.

-Thanks

There are all kinds things that could be causing this.  Any change or interruption of service by your isp could do it.  A power outage could do it.  In my opinion your problem is so minor, that I would not worry about, espcially since the potential of things causing it are way outside your control.

I have the D-Link DI-624. It was supplied for free by Verizon as part of my FiOS package. (FiOS rocks, btw.)  So far as I can tell I've never had the connection drop. At least I've never had to reset it. It's been rock solid.

When you say the connection drops, what do you mean? It loses it's WAN connection? Or it's LAN connection?

what hardware revision?  what firmware?  frankly, 3 months is probably a record for a 624 -- some people are happy if they can get 3 days without a reset.

Mine (the one that never needs reset) is a VDI-624 C3, with firmware 2.43DDM. Now, as I said mine was supplied by Verizon and is allegedly optimized in some way for the high speeds that we get with FiOS. (Mine is 15MB/2MB). It can only be updated with firmware supplied by Verizon, and not from the firmware posted on D-Link's site.

Maybe that's the difference, though whether there's really any difference between the Verizon supplied version and the standard D-Link is anybody's guess.

I have FiOS and Verizon gave me the Actiontec router.  It's OK at best.  Had issues with wireless drop outs from time to time...So I released my IP and re-installed my Buffalo WHR-HP-G64 High Power MIMO router...did not have any adverse effect on speed at all.  I can do this because I am NOT going with FiOS TV for a while...

Since reverting back to my Buffalo router...wireless dropouts are gone.  You might consider the fact that the only thing in the Verizon firmware that is over and above the firmware from D Link is most likely to do with the coax setup in the back of the router...for TV guide information...If you don't have FiOS TV...and don't intend to get...maybe try your old router...if a decent one

of you're feeling very techy and have an old computer, check out the x86 builds of dd-wrt.  it basically turns an old computer into a powerful wireless router, which might be nice for some people with the faster FIOS connection plans.

I think you have me (the guy with the Verizon DI-624) confused with the original poster. I'm not having issues at all, so no reason to swap routers. The original poster (who is having drops and bad-mouthed D-Link in general (in a post which was deleted by the mods)) never indicated that he had FiOS or a Verizon-supplied DI-624.

No problem. Just wanted to make sure no one who was tagging along got confused.

On a related note, I actually did try to replace the DI-624 with another router once. I had a couple of wireless clients (kid's PC's)  that could support MIMO so I got a MIMO router. It performed worse than the DI-624 so I returned it and went back to the D-Link.

Probably had to set the MTU and TCP Receive Window Values.  My Buffalo didn't do so well until I did that....more to do with windows than the router.  Windows was choking off my speed....

3 months and that bothers u? My Linksys is a great router but even it needs a power cycle now and then every month or so. It starts acting funny, I hit the switch on the power strip for 5 seconds, wait 10 seconds problem solved. Routers are mini pc's running Linux for the most part, they will always need a kick

BTW I support FIOS ;)
