Downloading Music on Network
I am at college and, though the university won't disclose their connection, I believe it's a T1. I can generally download directly from websites at about 90-100 kbs/sec. However, when I try to download music using programs such as Kazaa, Imesh, WinMX, or LimeWire, the downloads go at less than .10 kbs/sec. I think I am connected on a LAN and may have an active firewall. Does anyone have any idea how I can download at my optimal speed, or at least faster than what I am now?

Those peer to peer networks not only depend on the speed of your connection, but also on the speed of the connection on which the files reside and how many others are accessing that system at the same time. All of those services that you mention, with the exception of WinMX, load up your computer with Spyware. Spyware will eventual bring the speed of your system to a crawl and mess up all kinds of other things. I strongly advice you to get rid of Kazaa, Limewire, and IMesh and then do a complete scan for spyware and get rid of all of that gargabe that you now have installed.
