yes, I have reinstalled and formatted because I was trying anything. I just did it all again and the same thing. It did not work with the Ethernet so I plugged in the USB and it connected. I left the Ethernet plugged in this time, will that matter? What do I do now? I believe it is the 100.
If the chipset drivers are not installed first, then sometimes you have to start all over. Still, before doing that, I would try installing the other drivers once the chipset drivers are installed.
Where do I find the chipset drivers and how do in install them? They can be downloaded from the link I provided in a previous reply. Dowload the drivers to a computer with internet access, copy them to a CD or USB key, then take them to the 8250, copy them to a folder on the hard drive, then run the files to install the drivers.
Also will the DSL connection be faster by using the Ethernet connection instead of the USB? You will not notice any difference in speed.
Thanks so much for your help! After I posted I realized you had already told me where to find them. I will try it one more time and if that doesn't work then I won't worry about it being as there will be no difference in the speed.

Does your ethernet network adapter show up in Device Manager? Does it show up in Network Connections?

Have you ever reinstalled Windows on this machine? Do you know whether you have the gigabit ethernet adapter or the regular 100 Mpbs ethernet adapter?
