DW 1501 Wireless N vs D-LINK DIR-655

Hello dear community,

Recently, I've bought Dell Vostro 3700 with Broadcom 1501 on board.

Wireless card works with AP(D-LINK DIR 655) only on 802.11g but not on 802.11n.

Although it is written in 1501's spec that it supports 802.11n I couldn't make this thing work on 802.11n.

(Also previously I had ASUS laptop with AGN wireless card and it worked perfectly with my DIR-655 AP)

Sorry for kind of duplicate topic, I know there are similar topics but I tried everything:

-upgraded AP firmware to the latest one

-switched channel to 1,6,11

-turned on Afterburn, set BSS mode to 802.11n

But there is no affect, when I try to connect from my laptop in 802.11n only mode windows 7 x64 just says that it couldn't connect.

Guys please help, or suggest something about this issue.

Hello, indeed it would be very nice if you post the solution, since many others have the same problem.

Hi all, so it was strange actually.

While I had latest dell wifi drivers, my network works on 56Mbps then I completly deleted driver and reinstall it after that i had 802.11n and  speed - 64Mbs .

Also I heard from some guy that dell driver is not good for 802.11n and if you install broadcom's one you will get 802.11n without problem. Didn't tried that.

Thank you very much, great tip.

Solved also my problem. Strange that Dell Tech Support did not advise this.

The only thing is that if you look to the network status it tells you that the speed is 72 Mbbs.

But I think this is an error. My Dell Studio has now same speed as my Dell E6500 which gives as status a speed of around 250 Mbbs.

I uninstalled the driver and tried to reinstall it, but the card could never work again. When I contact the tech support, they directly order a new laptop for me. Seems like they wouldn't touch that problem either. btw, it's vostro3400.
