DW1520 Wireless N WLAN half mini card utility
Hi,
I have a DELL Studio 17, with a DW1520 Wireless N WLAN half mini card. Whenever I go to the control panel utility, it tells me there are no wireless adapters, yet, the very fact I have this post up shows I am connected to the Internet. I have wanted to specify a specify local lan IP address but I cannot access the utility... yet the device manager tells me its running ok. However, downloading the utility from DELL, it tells me that there are no compatible devices.

The Wireless Zero Configuration is an XP utility, and I am on Win 7 professional (64-bit).

Thank you, however, that site has not assisted me...
1/. the Wireless Zero Configuration is not listed
2/. the DWORD entry named "Start" and value "2" is there
However, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC that for me is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WSCSVC
Whether that makes a difference, or not, I would not know.

Hi Rick,
Thank you for the reply, however, there is no WLAN AutoConfig service, and all the services relating to the wireless are running... however, I am still not able to set open the DW utility... it still gives the same error.

PS: I cannot even install an updated driver - it tells there are no cards in the pc... so I would assume that the issues lies somewhere long before starting services.

ShaunUK,
Your Studio 17, did it come with Windows 7 or did you install it?
Try running Finding System Information remove your product ID and post the information back here.

ShaunUK,
Restart your computer and press F2. Look in the BIOS and make sure the wireless adapter is enabled.
What do you see in the device manager?
I was hoping that you ran the Finding System Information. At the bottom, it would show the network adapters.
Not sure if any of these will help...

hi Rick,
Well, the network adapter is listed, DW1520 WLAN half mini card.
The OS is not XP (as you keep pushing me towards it) it is Win 7 64 bit. It does not even take Vista drivers.
It is enabled in the bios.
However, my pc crashed, and now wireless adapter is broken. I tried to reinstall - to no avail
I get the following errors:
c:\build\bass_rel_5_60_48_18\win_external_wl_1\src\tools\install\app\bcmwls\update.cpp 59
error bass_rel_5_6 1940
Below are some driver details.
I am not sure what more I can say about this issue...

ShaunUK,
You said...
Did you try using system restore and go back before the computer crashed? Windows 7 make a syste, restore point every time the computer is started.

I have the exact problem as posted above. I have performed the steps as per your link. No joy. All facets of my device mgr show the card (DW1520 wireless-n wlan half-mini card) working properly. I have used the F2 (wireless on/off) key; the win key combos. Nothing works. When I try to download the utility, I'm told I have no compatible hardware, thus the download is disallowed. I can't even troubleshoot the problem.
