Erratic network access (Ethernet and wireless) on new 700M
I just acquired a new Inspiron 700M for our company and set it as usual for our network structure. Using either a hard connection or wireless, everything appears as it should when examining the connection information. DHCP is assigning a valid IP address and passing along the appropriate gateway and DNS addresses for access outside our intranet.
The major network components are a Netopia R9100 router, 2 Snap 2200 storage appliances and a Windows 2003 Server based computer for print serving and SQL. I have disabled firewalling on the 700M and even uninstalled the factory installed McAfee protection software to verify that these were not the cause.
All network components on the intranet are viewable, but not all are accessible (I have checked the permissions on those connections requiring them for typos and even reentered them as a doublecheck). Our Windows 2003 Server print server is accessible and works perfectly. Our two Snap storage appliances are visible, but return a message of "you may not have access rights to this connection". I have even tried to map the Snaps using supervisor level user and PW without success. Internet access is also unavailable despite the gateway and DNS information being present and correct.
I have several other Inspirons (8K series) working perfectly on our network, but this one has me beat. Dell help desk resulted in my being passed to 4 departments in a circular fashion with no real assistance at all. I'm turning to you folks in the trenches in hopes that this issue has arisen before.
Thanks in Advance,
Johnson Knowles
