This is a software setting and doesn't require you to haul it back to Best Buy. Data Execution Prevention is a security setting to protect your safety. Make sure you have good security--anti virus, anti spyware and firewall. You don't say what operating system you have. You should always tell us that as well as model computer. Assuming you have Vista-- Read this fix: CLICK HERE

You might want to download and use Firefox as another browser. You can have both browsers on the same computer.

I kind of figured that. Geek Squad guy kept insisting that unhooking everything, loading it in the car, and driving the 75 miles back to the store was the only option I had. I tried to politely explain that I didn't think anything was wrong with the (brand new) computer that would require the inconvenience and expense of bringing it back. I thought it was just an adjustment to the settings that I didn't know about since I was new to Windows Vista. The Geek Squad guy actually got irritated and sharply explained that Geek Squad is "Not a free online tech support service - they charge a fee for support." I then explained that I didn't call "Geek Squad" for free support, I called Best Buy since that was where I bought the computer . . . "Geek Squad" answered the phone. I asked to speak to a manager and the Geek Squad guy asked if there was something he could help me with. (apparently he could only help me if I brought it back so he could charge me some outragious fee for clicking a button in the settings somewhere).

But enough about that. I won't shop at Best Buy again . . . and I will make sure I tell everyone and anyone exactly what I think about Geek Squad whenever I get the chance.

You wrote, "Read this fix: CICK HERE" I followed those directions. It's the same path I foillowed when I clicked on the error message. That path is:  Control Panel > System & maintenance > System > Advanced system settings > Settings (under Preformance) > Data Execution Prevention.

In that final dialog box there are two options that I can select one of: (1) Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only. or (2) Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. Underneath there is a blank field. I assume this is where the programs are supposed to show up so I can "select" or deselect - but the field is always blank. I tried clicking on both options, and the problem is still there.
