ethernet and usb

I have a Westell Modem 2200 I use for Verizon DSL.
When I use the ethernet cable I can not connect to the internet. When I use the usb cables I can. I have tried to find out from Verizon and Westell with no luck. I really  need to use the ethernet cables to hook up a router for my laptop. I have a Deminision 2400 desk top. Thanks, Dana

Did you ever find an answer to your problem?  I am having the same trouble with Comcast and my Motorola modem.  It is currently set up for USB and I need it to work with Ethernet for the router.  I was able to get a connection to the network but I still cannot receive anything from that connection.  Any one have any ideas?  Thanks.

Hello, I spent 6 hours talking to Dell, Verizon and Westell and Netgear. The man at Netgear said I had to have an address on each PC in order to comunnicate with the router which has it on. I called Dell for the address and then Verizon back to Westell. Still nothing. I ended up changing the last 2 numbers on IP address. EX. 192.168.1.1.1

I gave each computer a different number.

EX. 192.168.1.2.2 and 192.168.1.3.1

It worked somehow. I can tell you that Dell didn't have any answers and yours is the only reply I received on the forum. Wish I could be of more help and if you receive any please let me know.

Thanks for the reply.  I also posted in the network forum and someone there helped me out with my usb to ethernet troubles.  My wireless router is now hooked up and good to go.  Glad everything worked out for you too. :smileyhappy:
