Ethernet Bridge

I just moved to an apartment complex that offers free internet through an ethernet bridge. I setup the bridge to my computer and it shows I am connected (100 mbps) but I still can't get on the internet. The LED lights on the front are all lit up. I tried creating a new connection but it didn't do anything when I hit finish. I don't have to have a "live" land line do I?

Thanks.

Sometimes, when you connect to a "hub", the hub may need to restarted (repowered) to pick up the new devices. Also, make sure your firewall is not blocking your access.

when you say ethernet bridge what exactly do you mean? can you explain what the device looks like or what you think it does? is it wireless for instance?

Who said you needed the bridge?  That seems odd.

The apartment complex told me I had to go get an ethernet bridge, I'm assuming because the entire complex is networked through it. It's just a little box that connects a phone cord into the wall and a network cable into the computer.

If you have an Ethernet port on your PC and they provide you with an Ethernet wall jack then you shouldn't need anything extra to connect.

Plus, I wouldn't trust their connection.  I would put a router in between me and that jack.

I don't think we ever answered the guy's question or maybe he figured it out.

I figured it out last night. I tried a couple of times to release, then renew my ip address, but it never worked. I finally used the repair tool in the LAN settings and renewed the address, making it work. Thanks for all of your suggestions.

So was the bridge necessary or did you direct connect?

No, I'm still going through the bridge.
