First, I would try a different cable.

Are the link lights on either or both ends of the cable on (when connected to the I1200)?

How exactly is it not working?

Do you have a built in Ethernet card or is it PCMCIA (removable)? If the latter, it is easy to replace and you can replace it with a wireless card. An internal card is harder to replace. You would likely need to find an exact replacement. If you go wireless, you will need a wireless router or access point for a cable/DSL connection.

The I1200 will work with any router (or at least it should). Make sure it has the capabilities you want (wireless or not, number of Ethernet ports, etc).

I have a 2wire router that includes DSL modem, router, firewall, wireless and 4-port switch. It is very complete. I also use a DLink router (no wireless or DSL modem). They both work very well. I suspect all the name brand routers will work well (Linksys, Netgear). Even the cheapy no-name models probably work fine.
