ethernet connection trouble with Vonage

I have the Vonage router hooked up to my cable modem using the ethernet cord. Ethernet cord going from router to my PC (I guess it's the ethernet connector on the back of my pc, the only one the ethernet cord fits in). When I power everything on, the modem, router, and telephone works like a charm, but I can't get online with my PC. I've had RoadRunner for months, and the installer of that, if I remember correctly, couldn't get the ethernet connection on my PC to work, so he used the USB port for my RR internet. When I saw I had trouble with Vonage, I checked the device manager. And like others on the forum, I have a big yellow ? and ! next to ethernet controller. I tried installing the driver instructed on other posts, and it still doesn't work. Do I even have an ethernet card? And why does the driver not seem to work? Sorry for the lengthy email.

I have a Dimension 2400

Which driver did you download?  Are there any other devices shown as problem devices in Device Manager?  You will not get this setup to work until you have the proper drivers installed for your ethernet adapter.  Try the drivers from the following site:

I tried two different drivers for the stock ethernet device. I got tired of messing with it, figured it is faulty Dell junk. Bought a new ethernet card and it works fine now. I appreciate your reply Steve.
