I reinstalled Windows XP on my Dimension 8250 yesterday and used the Dell disk to reinstall drivers but can't get the Ethernet Controller driver to install. When I open Device Manager I can see "Network Adapters" and it shows the "1394 Net Adapter" as installed. Under that is "Other Devices" with "Ethernet Controller" and the Ethernet Cotroller is shown as not having a Driver installed. I tried to install the driver from the Dell disk that came with the computer without success. I also went to the Dell Support; Drivers & Downloads page and downloaded driver R56484 (Network Driver - Intel 10/100 LOM) but when I installed it I still couldn't get the Ethernet Controller to show it has a driver. I also installed "Network Diagnostics Utility for Intel 10/100 LOM - R53599" and it just says that the Ethernet Controller needs a driver.

 

Does anyone know what is wrong?
