Ethernet Controller Drivers Not Installed under Devices

GX270 desktop (bought 2004) with onboard network adapter (Intel PRO/1000 MT) that quit working but I installed a Realtek card. I had this card working with Red Hat and even a beta version of Vista. I've since reverted back to my Dell XP version using Dell CD but can not get an IP from my dhcp host/router. After the XP install, the Realtek RTL8139/810x NIC shows to be properly working under Devices however I have Four "Other devices" with the yellow question mark. They are Ethernet controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, SM Bus Controller and Video Controller (VGA compatible). Two other reinstalls & formats produced the same result. I've tried Reinstall Driver from Ethernet Controller properties but no luck finding a driver. I'm wondering if the Dell OEM XP install only knows what to do if the onboard Intel network adapter is working. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

It looks like you did not install the drivers in the proper order - the chipset driver must be installed before even attempting to install other device drivers:

Actually the XP install detected the NIC and installed the driver first. I failed to mention in the original post that I tried the chipset install (latest version) and it consistently hangs at 15%. I'm going to disable and deinstall teh Realtek network adapter and driver and try the chipset update again.

Volcano FIXED! Thanks for steering me in teh right direction. I had to pull the Realtek Card to make the chipset install work. I pity the non-techie that needs to rebuild their Dell system. No wonder my parents' friends buy a new computer when the 2-3 yr old pc gets "slow". I luckily had another computer with connectivity so I could download those drivers. I'm a packrat and Dell did not ship a drivers CD in 2004 for this system.
