Ethernet Controller not detected, drivers installed -Inpiron 5100
I've reinstalled XP (I don't have any of the OEM cds) and all the drivers are installed including the Broadcom Ethernet driver (which is actually just a utility from what I can tell) I got from the list of Inspiron drivers. When I run the utility it says "No Active Bradcom Adapter/Driver Detected in this System".
Windows Device Manager shows the yellow exclamation next to Ethernet Controller and says it cannot install the device because it No Drivers were found. When I plug a cord into the port the orange light comes on, so it's getting power and should be active right?
I installed the chipset drivers and updated the BIOS to A32. Not sure what else to do.

I went to Broadcom's site and downloaded a 440x standalone driver, ran it from the device manager and wallah!
Here's the link for anyone else having this problem.
