ethernet port no longer working
My ethernet port is no longer working. When I open the connection setting it says network cable is unplugged even though it is plugged in. I bought a new cable thinking that my old one had gone bad but the new one doesn't work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

open device manage and ensure that there no yellow ? or red X on the network adapter.
Try reinstalling the driver for you eithernet adapter...
Post your system specs so we can know what model and ther kind of hardware and os you have in your system...

Thank you for the reply.
I checked the device manager and there were no marks beside anything.
I have an HP AMD Athlon XP2200+, ze4427wm, with Windows XP.
Is there a way to find out if the problem is with the ethernet port on my computer or the ethernet port on my DSL modem?

I haven't received a reply from my 02-26-08 post. Is it because I'm using the Dell forum for a non-Dell product? I use this forum because it's the only tech forum around that gives legitimate, easy to understand solutions. All I want to know is how to find out if it's the ethernet port on my computer that's quick working or if it's the port on my DSL modem. I've used this site's forum many other times without problems.

Thank you for the reply. I can try to test the modem using my mother's computer. I will let you know!

Do you have a friends laptop or one available to test the port on the DSL modem? That would be one of the easiest ways to determine where the fault lies.
