Connect from the modem via ethernet and shut down both units (modem and PC).  Power up the modem first, waiting about 2 minutes, then the PC and see what happens.

Post the results of an ipconfig /all

Start>Run>cmd type  ipconfig /all >> C:\ipconfig.txt

Go to the C Drive and post those results here.

I have tried what you suggested but still no connection. I have had my cable provider out and he checked my cable modem and it is all working correctly I also replaced ethernet cable in case this was faulty

Okay, you are not getting an IP Address as I figured.  Google for a program called WinSockfix for XP and run it.  Post back to see if the wired connection has changed.

Again, run the ipconfig from the wired connection.

Look in the Device Manager and see if there is a Yellow Exclamation mark in there next to this device.  If not, I would now suggest unistalling it and letting XP reinstall after a reboot.

Your ipconfig output shows that you don't have DHCP enabled, and therefore you will never get an IP address.  Open Network Connections, right click your LAN connection and select Properties from the drop-down menu.   Find the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), select it, and click on the Properties button.   Make sure that their is a check mark next to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and a check mark next to "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

Repost the output from your ipconfig /all command.  The previous out put you posted showed that this feature was not enabled.  Did you change something?
