Finding a Mini PCI wireless card for my C400
Hi,
I am looking for a mini PCI wireless card for my C400. On the Dell website I could only find the PRO Wireless 2100 Mini PCI Card for Dell Inspiron 600m. Would this card work on my system.
Thanks

Greg,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
I found two miniPCI cards here. Either will work with your system. You may also consider contacting Dell Spare and Parts at 1-800-372-3355 to see if other network cards are available.

Hi,
Thand for your answer. Are you sure that the PRO Wireless 2100 Mini PCI Card is compatible with my C400. I thought this card made by intel worked only on computers with their mobile chips Centrino. Please give me a formal answer on compatibility so that I can buy this baby right away.
By the way, on my mini PCI slot, beside the PCI connector there are two wires. One is the antenna but what is the other one ?
Thanks

Greg,
Both are to antennae on your system. There are two sets of wires that most likely run along either side of the keyboard or along the sides of the LCD. As for compatibility, I am not in front of a chart and cannot give you a definitive answer.

Hi:
I read this thread and bought at 1350 for my C400. I had no trouble installing it. XP recognized there's a new network card. However when I proceed to install the software, it said there was no compatible hardware detected and exit. Can you help?
Thanks

You can use ANY MiniPCI wireless card in your Dell (C400). a 1300, 1350, 1400, 1450 or any of the Intel cards.
As far as getting the Dell driver to install on Dell notebooks that Dell says the cards aren't made for you have to edit the "Setup.ini" file contained in the driver/software package.
You can find a link to a new "setup.ini" file on the Inspron boards and/or instructions on how to modify/edit that file.

Thanks for that response.
I read the same response from another thread and did the search. However I could not come up with the instruction to chagne the setup.ini file. I appreciate if you can point me to the instructions

Thanks for the link. I was able to install the driver.
One more question. The 1350 has two terminals for the antenna, one called Main, the other AUX. My C400 has two wires, one black, one white. Does it matter which wire connect to which terminal?

Don't really know anything about the C400 but It may have 1 antenna for 2.4GHz (b & G wireless which should be the black wire) and 1 for 5?GHz (A).
But all that is just speculation.
